In 2015, while developing high performance hollow fiber membranes, Customer Motian Technology faced an industry wide challenge: TIPS spinnerets were generally limited to single hole designs, failing to meet high efficiency production needs. At the time, mainstream technology struggled to scale to multi-hole configurations due to constraints in flow field balancing under high temperatures, needle concentricity control, and material heat resistance. Trustech took the lead in conquering the six hole TIPS spinneret, becoming one of the few companies worldwide to mass produce multi-hole TIPS spinnerets and filling a major industry gap.
I. Breaking the single hole limitation: three key innovations of the first six hole TIPS spinneret
● Multi-hole flow field balancing technology:
Before 2015, due to the challenging rheology of PVDF dopes at high temperatures 150–220°C ,multi-hole structures often suffered from uneven discharge. Through a composite conical flow channel design, Trustech achieved a pressure distribution fluctuation of <3% across the six spinning orifices, resolving the low efficiency bottleneck of single hole processes.
● Stepped pin positioning structure (4th generation technology):
Concentricity was controlled within 0.005 mm, avoiding the industry pain point of >5% fiber wall thickness deviation during multi-hole spinning.
● Materials and structural reliability at high temperature:
To address PVDF degradation at elevated temperatures, a stainless steel high temperature hardening process was adopted, extending spinneret service life to 3–5 years at 220°C (vs. 1–2 years for traditional single hole plates).
II. A process leap from single hole to multi-hole
1. Traditional single hole spinnerets had low throughput and could not meet Customer Motian's scale up needs. Trustech six hole design increased per pass spinning output to six times that of single hole plates. Pre production fluid analysis was used to optimize the aperture gradient, ensuring uniform membrane fiber flux.
2. Trustech this technology laid the process foundation for subsequent 12 hole and 24 hole multi orifice spinnerets.
3. As an industry showcase, this project became the domestic benchmark for TIPS multi-hole development after 2015, accelerating the transition of the water treatment membrane sector from lab scale trials to large scale manufacturing.
III. Long term cooperation and industrial upgrading
● Based on the success of the six hole spinneret, Customer Motian Technology and Trustech established a strategic partnership.
● 2015 to present: Customer Motian successive purchases of NIPS, TIPS, and MBR series spinnerets, supporting its R&D and market expansion in membranes.
● Industry impact: leveraging this technological edge, Customer Motian Technology has become a leading enterprise in membrane based water treatment in China.
Six hole TIPS spinneret project in 2015 not only demonstrated Trustech's technical strength but also marked a historic leap for China's TIPS spinnerets from "single hole, low efficiency" to " multi-hole, high throughput." By overcoming challenges in high temperature flow field balancing and precision multi-hole machining, Trustech delivered a high efficiency, highly reliable production solution for Customer Motian Technology, cementing the technical voice and competitiveness of its membrane products.
